Happy New Year! Let's make 2017, the year that we finally break through our challenges and plateaus and sculpt amazing, natural physiques. My focus for this year is on personal development and mindset... because every battle, always starts within your mind. 80% of new year resolutioners will quit the gym after the first 4 weeks...
Why is that? Perhaps a lack of passion, determination and a plan of action... mixed in with a blend of unrealistic expectations and that's the perfect formula for failure... Now if we fix those things before even thinking about stepping into the gym, it's a whole different ball game.
Get your mindset right, before stepping into the gym, create a great routine to follow, write up a realistic and specific goal and set a deadline... Most importantly follow through every day of your routine, on your good and the bad days and watch the magic happen.
So you want to reach your best natural physique in 2017, but don't quite know where to start? Or the best plan of action?
Step 1: Write down your reasons for wanting to get in shape.
Make them as deep as possible and not just the typical, I want to look good, I want to be healthy... Make your reasons as specific and deep as possible. Example might be... I want to attract my perfect partner, I want to feel confident taking off my shirt and not feel embarrassed, I want to become a better role model for my kids etc.
The reason why this comes as step 1, is because whenever you feel low motivation, don't want to head to the gym or at the worst case, feel like quitting... You look over your reasons for wanting to get in shape and you will find the new motivation and determination you need to get your ass back in the gym, training, grinding and getting those amazing results you've wanted.
Step 2: Set yourself a realistic and specific goal.
For Example, I want to lose 6kg in 12 weeks. Now that's only 0.5kg of weight loss per week on average, which is great, in order to keep your lean muscle and even build some, depending on your current level of experience.
Your goal should be as specific as possible with an exact deadline, because we just love procrastinating. Having a set deadline helps a great deal, to keep you focused and consistent.
I've made the mistake of not setting a specific deadline and have wasted quite a few months, getting off track... time you can't get back.
Step 3: Create a Simple Diet and Training routine that is realistic for you to follow.
Example might be to eat 5 small meals per day, every 3-4 hours, 3 main meals and 2 snack meals. And to train 4 days per week with 3 days off.
Now write your meal plan on a clipboard, next to it, write your training program with what body parts you're going to hit on each day of the week, including your cardio sessions. Stick that Clipboard on the wall somewhere, where it's high visibility. Eg your bedroom, In the kitchen, etc.
The most important factor to this routine, is to stay CONSISTENT.. Not training 4 days one week, 2 days the next week, 3 days week after.. this will not provide you with any results and will eventually make you quit the gym altogether...
It's all about training 4 days per week, every single week no matter what... You might be stressed from work, have a lack of time, or be going through a break up... no matter what you're challenge is... Once you teach your mind that no matter what problem you're presented with, you will stick to your routine... reaching your best physique will become a smooth ride.
Finding an accountability friend, gym buddy or even a coach to help you stay on track, push you and motivate you will be the most important element to ensure your success with your health and fitness goals in 2017.
We all want to be in the best shape, but most people DON'T want to put in the work to get there... Having that accountability and consistency will make the world of difference into pushing you beyond your limits, to that amazing physique you've always wanted.
